What laser resurfacing is
Lasers reach the deeper layers of the skin
A laser treatment delivers light energy at a specific wavelength to target under the skin. The target can be pigment in a sun spot, the tiny blood vessels behind redness, or the skin’s surface and structure. The energy prompts a controlled repair response from your body, and over the following weeks, your skin rebuilds smoother, clearer, and more even, with results improving across a series of treatments.
All of our laser treatments are run on the Sciton Joule, an FDA-cleared platform that holds several lasers in one machine. This flexibility lets us match the laser to your concern: BBL for tone and redness, the Nano and Micro Laser Peel for surface texture, and ProFractional and TRL for scars and wrinkles. Most of these treatments can be performed on the face and on much of the body, not the face alone. Different wavelengths do different jobs, so the five options below represent real choices we make for your unique skin and plan, not one setting applied to everyone. Every laser treatment requires a consultation to confirm the right laser for your skin type.

BBL (BroadBand Light)
Our option to address tone and redness. Broadband light fades sun spots, evens color, and stimulates collagen. Expect some short-lived downtime, especially on pigment, which can darken to a coffee-ground look before it flakes away. Best for sun spots, age spots, broken capillaries, and overall tone. Done in a series.
Nano Laser Peel
The lightest resurfacing laser, it lifts the very top layer of skin to smooth texture and brighten tone, with the shortest recovery, usually about three days of visible downtime depending on depth.
Best for mild texture, dullness, and prepping for an event. A refresher, not a corrector for deep lines.
Micro Laser Peel
The Micro Laser Peel is erbium laser resurfacing on the Sciton Joule, one step deeper than our Nano peel. It removes more of the skin's surface layer, which is where years of sun damage, pigment irregularities, and rough texture live.
ProFractional
Our fractional option for texture and scars. It softens acne scars and deeper lines as the skin rebuilds collagen, and it’s also used for preventative maintenance.
TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser)
Our deepest option, for deeper aging and scarring, and also as an occasional full reset every few years rather than a series. It renews the whole surface, with results that can last for years as collagen rebuilds deep below the surface.

Lasers handle sun spots and uneven tone, the redness and capillaries of rosacea, rough texture and scars, and the deeper wrinkles of sun-aged skin. When something else fits better, we'll point you there.
When you’re worried about sun spots and uneven tone, redness and capillaries of rosacea, rough texture and scars, or the deeper wrinkles of sun-aged skin, lasers are a great choice. If something else fits better, we'll build your plan with a different treatment.
We don't laser over active acne or a rosacea flare up, and we don't treat skin with recent sun exposure or an active tan, because it raises the risk of rebound pigment. If your skin isn't ready, or another treatment fits sun spots, redness, or texture better, we’ll start there.
Pigment and tone
Sun spots, age spots, and uneven tone from photodamage lift away as the pigment sheds. Melasma is treated carefully, sometimes with a different treatment.
Redness and capillaries
Broken capillaries, redness related to rosacea, and post-acne red marks respond well to lasers.
Texture and scarring
Acne scars, surgical scars, enlarged pores, and rough or thickened skin can be treated with lasers, once active breakouts are stable.
Deeper aging signs
Fine lines, deeper static wrinkles, crepey texture, and advanced sun damage can be addressed with the deeper resurfacing lasers.

Lighter lasers like BBL and the Nano Peel handle tone, redness, and surface refresh, while deeper resurfacing like ProFractional and TRL addresses scarring, significant texture, and deeper aging. We don't laser over active acne or rosacea flares, and we don't treat recently sun-exposed or tanned skin.
We choose for you at the consultation, based on your skin and what you're treating. As a rough guide: if the issue is color, like sun spots, broken capillaries, or uneven tone, BBL is usually the answer, with no real downtime. If the issue is texture, scarring, or wrinkles, we move to resurfacing, starting with the Nano or Micro Laser Peel for surface texture and ProFractional or TRL for deeper structural work. The deeper the laser, the more recovery it asks for, so your downtime tolerance is part of the decision.
It depends entirely on the laser. BBL means little to no downtime, with sun spots darkening and flaking off over five to fourteen days. The Nano Peel is two to three days of light flaking. The Micro Laser Peel is about five to seven days of real flaking, and ProFractional about three to five days of redness and bronzing. TRL is the most involved, with a full week or more of visible healing. We keep you on a gentle routine and out of the sun, and the deeper collagen results keep building for weeks afterward.
Sun on freshly treated skin is the main way a laser result gets undone. Light energy makes the skin more sensitive while it heals, and sun exposure during that window can trigger rebound pigment, where new dark patches form. In Texas that means we schedule most lasers, especially BBL and resurfacing, for roughly October through March, ask for no sun for at least two weeks beforehand, and reschedule anyone who arrives with a fresh tan.
Often, but not always, and which laser matters. Lasers are used safely across a range of skin tones when the settings are matched to your skin, which is part of why we work on a platform that adjusts. Some treatments and some deeper lasers carry more risk on certain skin types, and pigment like melasma is treated carefully. We assess your skin type, history, and what you're treating at the consultation and recommend only what's safe and appropriate for you.
No, that's exactly what's supposed to happen. After a BBL the treated spots darken and look like coffee grounds for about 5 to 7 days, then flake off on their own to leave more even tone. Don't pick at them, just let them shed.
Through your entire recovery, and you should be cautious well beyond it. Sun on freshly lasered skin causes rebound pigment that can undo the whole treatment. This is also why we schedule most laser for fall and winter, and why a tan means we reschedule you.
Once your skin has fully recovered, which depends on the treatment. Most modalities are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with deeper resurfacing spaced longer. We'll set the timing based on how your skin healed and where we are in your plan.
