What TRL is

One tunable laser, set to the depth your skin actually needs

Tunable is the whole point: one laser, set as shallow or as deep as your skin needs.

TRL stands for Tunable Resurfacing Laser, and the name is literal. It runs on the same Sciton platform as our other lasers, and it's the deepest option we offer. The depth isn't fixed: we set it to match what we're correcting, from a shallower pass to the deepest work we do.

Our fractional lasers work through narrow channels, leaving the skin between them intact. TRL treats the whole surface of the area we're correcting. Your body then rebuilds that surface with fresh collagen over the months that follow, which is why the change keeps arriving long after the recovery weeks are behind you. Work at this depth is medical-grade, and it's the kind of treatment our medical-director oversight allows us to perform under Texas law.

Where TRL sits in a plan depends on you. For significant aging or scarring, it's often the corrective step itself. Some clients use it differently: one deep treatment every couple of years as prevention, instead of an ongoing series. It isn't reserved for severe cases, and it isn't only for the face; like most of our lasers, it can treat most areas of the body.

Depth, area, and timing are decided at your consultation and skin analysis, not picked off a menu.

What to expect

The visit, the recovery, and when you'll see it

TRL is our deepest treatment, so it comes with our longest recovery. Here's how it goes.

Plan on 45 to 60 minutes in the treatment room, depending on the area we're treating. A topical anesthetic keeps you comfortable at shallower settings; deeper work calls for a local anesthetic. We don't offer sedation-level treatments at 512. Of all the lasers we run, TRL at depth is the one clients feel the most, and we'll talk through what to expect before we begin.

Recovery runs one to two weeks, and it's worth blocking off before you book. Lasers don't make skin flake the way chemical peels do. Expect redness, and don't be alarmed if treated skin looks darker for a stretch. That's pigment surfacing before it sheds, and it's part of the process working.

The results build from there. The renewed surface is the first thing you'll see, but the deeper change arrives slowly, as collagen rebuilds for months after treatment. Your skin keeps improving well after you're back to your routine.

Timing isn't locked to a season. We plan corrective-depth work like TRL around your sun exposure, and it tends to favor the lower-sun months. We'll map the right window together at your consultation, and we'll go over your recovery plan before and after treatment.

    Daily sunscreen protects the new surface for as long as your skin is rebuilding.

  • Stay out of direct sun

    Keep healing skin shaded while it recovers.

  • Pause the harsh actives

    Set the retinoids, acids, and scrubs aside for a few days; your skin has enough to do.

  • Keep care gentle

    Mild cleansing and steady hydration while the new surface settles in.

  • Let shedding happen on its own

    Darker patches shed when they're ready. This isn't peel-style flaking, and picking risks scarring.
